Land Acknowledgement

I acknowledge that I am an uninvited settler on the traditional and unceded territory of the Coast Salish Peoples, the traditional territory of the Snuneymuxw First Nation. I am privileged to live, work, and raise my family on this beautiful land. I would like to pay my respects to the Snuneymuxw People as the traditional stewards of the land and reaffirm my commitment to reconciliation.
About Me.
I have been a Registered Nurse since 2005. My clinical background is in Paediatric nursing and Neonatal Intensive Care. I have worked in bedside roles, as well as in clinical education and in clinical leadership. I am active in The Canadian Association of Paediatric Nurses, and was involved in the writing and development of the Canadian Standards of Paediatric Nursing, and served as an item writer in the development of the Canadian Nurses Association Paediatric Nursing Specialty Certification exam. I have been part of several provincial working groups to develop guidelines and education modules to help standardize paediatric nursing care in British Columbia.

As a clinician and educator, I am passionate about family centred care, developmentally supportive care and simulation-based education. As a doctoral student at the University of Saskatchewan, my research interests focus on moral distress, moral injury, resilience and hope in Paediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care nurses. I am also interested in the stereotypical views of nurses, and how they have emerged and evolved over time are perpetuated by the media, particularly social media.

When I am not at work or studying, I am spending time with my husband, daughter and our three cats. We enjoy hiking and exploring beautiful Vancouver Island, and are avid theatre-goers.
I am a member of the Cadet Instructor Cadre, the branch of the Canadian Armed Forces that teaches and administers the Army, Sea and Air Cadet program in Canada. I have worked with the local army cadet unit for the past 23 years.
I also enjoy practicing karate, a passion that my daughter and I share. We each hold a first Dan black belt in Goju Ryu Karate.
